Eldwick & Gilstead Gala 2008
Harewood Chase 2008
Judith & Keith Firm Harewood Chase, 8th June 2008.
29 Harriers braved the hot and sunny conditions to race around the scenic route, in the grounds of Harewood House. It was an excellent day for Bingley with a clean sweep in both races.
In the women’s race Bingley took the first four places and the team prize with Pauline Munro, Lisa Mawer and Sue Becconsall in 1st,2nd and 3rd places respectively. Ruth Whitehead was 4th.
Not to be outdone the Bingley men took the first three places and team prize in the men’s race. Tim Midgeley took 1st followed by Jon Cordingley and Martin Peace. Tim, Jon and Martin put in exceptional times considering the very hot conditions. Jon was also 1st MV50!

Bingley St Ives Trail Race
Bingley wins race, but looses Match!
St Ives Trail Race 10th June.
The St Ives Trail Race is a charity fundraiser for Riding for Disabled organised by Mary Green - with the assistance of Bingley Harriers. It is a fast, 5 mile, mixed course, taking full advantage of the varied terrain within the St Ives Estate
As part of this year’s St Ives Trail Race a Mob Match was arranged between Bingley and Ilkley Harriers. In a Mob Match points are awarded for each runner for based on the runners result relative to the winner with factors applied for age and gender. All runners from each club count in the team.
Forty Ilkley Harriers travelled over the moor to take part. Rumours of Cap’n Bob applying a "three line whip" were heard. Only thirty Bingley Harriers turned out, so red and green predominated at the start.
Bingley’s 30 runners scored 2568 points. Ilkley’s 40 runners scored 3387 points. A not unsurprising win for Ilkley; however Ilkley’s best 30 scores totalled 2612 points, so they won narrowly on that basis too.
On the upside Robin Lawrence won in 34:25 and Ruth Whitehead was first woman and 22nd overall in 41:16. Bingley also took the men and women’s team prizes.
Everyone taking part enjoyed the event and many stayed behind to enjoy the refreshments laid on by the staff and volunteers. The Mob Match only added to the great atmosphere of the event. So Bingley Harriers put a note in your diaries, we don’t want to be beaten on our home turf next year!

Pulton Cup - Wednesday 2nd July 2008 7pm.
This years Pulton Cup will be staged at Horsfall Track, Cemetary Road, Bradford.
The Prestigious Pulton Cup is the Bingley Harriers Club Track & Field Championships for all ages from 8 to Seniors. Medals and certificates are given to all age groups with the coveted Pulton Cup going to the overall winner (Certain rules apply (e.g. at least 3 in an age group etc.)
The event will be on the one night only and in the form of a Quadathlon with a Sprint (60m), Long Jump, Bullnose Javelin and Distance (Well, once round the Track!).
Work will have started at Beckfoot by the end of June so we have decided on Horsfall for this years event.
We would like to see as many as possible make the one off trip to Horsfall (about 20 mins from Baildon!) and give the event a boost. It also helps us see how the athletes are progressing and the opportunity to run on a Tartan track.

New Arrival
Amongst several new signings, the club is delighted to announce that Richard Harris (formerly of Rotherham A.C.) has joined the ranks. Richard is a talented and versatile performer on the road, track and cross country scenes and has also expressed an interest in fell relay racing too.
He has PB's of 31.12(10K), 15.13(5K), 70.36(half marathon) and 9.21(3K steeplechase - he is a former Yorkshire Champion at ths event). We wish him every success in the blue and white hoops.
Rushton Shield 2008
Stephen Firth won the Bob Smith Handicap, the first counter for the Rushton Shield. So he now heads the Rushton Shield table. However it’s very early days yet.
Faye Robinson also did well gaining 48 points. Faye and Steve are getting married in June, at the same time as the Eldwick Gala race, so it looks like they will miss out on the points there.
Following the Harewood Chase David Norfolk has moved up into first place. Faye Robinson is now in second place ahead of Stephen Firth!
The next counter is the Eldwick Gala race on 28th June
