What's New...

Hi there and welcome to my pawsome summer 08 newsletter. Our young athletes are producing some pawsome results this summer season including five Yorkshire T&F Champions, one Northern T&F Champion and six qualifying for the English Schools T&F Champions in Gateshead. Several of our youngsters have also been selected to compete at Senior Track & Field League level and all of those making their debuts have certainly made the club proud - our youth policy is finally paying off! The annual Bob Smith race was again well supported by our junior section. Well done to James Fardy and Luca Zenti who crossed the line first in the U14 and U11 race’s and to James Hall who had the fastest overall junior time. Don’t forget to enter the clubs Track & Field Champs (Pulton Cup) on Wed 2nd July at Horsfall Track - 7.00pm start - it’s an event not to be missed. We will soon be closing for our summer break with the last Tuesday session being the 15th July. We return for winter training on Tuesday 16th September. Have a good summer - see you soon and keep Running, Jumping and Throwing with the Young Hounds because we’re the best! Enjoy your athletics - I do

In the early months of 1991 an idea was born at a RAF Cosford Indoor Athletics meeting. Many Bingley Harriers both junior and senior were competing and during one of the breaks a discussion took place. The outcome was the suggestion that Bingley Harriers should have an indoor (Sportshall Athletics) Pulton Cup. An anonymous sponsor donated the trophy and the event was born. Each athlete competes in running, jumping and throwing and the total points scored are then calculated to give age group winners and an overall winner. The inaugural winner of the competition was none other than Joanne Oates who is still competing for the club. There was a new trophy added in 1993 to cater for the under 9's and Under 11's, consequently there are now 2 trophies to be contested each spring. The competition is still enthusiastically attended and long may it remain.

The Young Hound of the Month Award is for the Young Bingley Harriers age 8 to 20 'Young Hounds' who have excelled athletically at Athletics events during the month. The award winner will receive a goodie bag, a certificate and a replica Hound Dog mascot. The Young Hound of the month will go forward to the annual Young Hound of the year award which will be presented at the Junior Presentation Evening - Watch for details.
May Winner

The May Young Hound of the Month is Josh Allan.

During the month of May Josh competed at the second West Yorkshire Track & Field League meeting held at Thornes Park in Wakefield. He competed in the U17 200m and came 1st with a National Grade 3 performance. Josh’s next competition was at the Preston Sports Arena for the Northern League match. Josh competed in the Senior Men’s 400m (A Race) and 200m (B Race) and came away with a 1st and 2nd place - both with National Grade 2 performances. The Yorkshire Championships was Josh’s next competition where he became the U17 400m Champion with a new personal best and National Grade 1 performance. However Josh’s final and best achievement of the month of May was at Robin Park in Wigan at the Northern U17 Championships. In the U17 400m Josh cruised to the final by winning his heat and then in the final he stormed to victory and stopped the clock at 49.51sec - a new personal best, a National Grade 1 performance, 5th place in the UK Rankings and just short of the Bingley Harriers Senior Men’s Club Record. Well done Josh - Pawsome running.
